Multiplayer & Co-op

Is Echoes of Aincrad multiplayer? No — it's a single-player game with no online co-op, PvP or crossplay. An AI partner system fights alongside you instead. What's in the game today and whether multiplayer could come later.

Echoes of Aincrad is a single-player game. There's no online co-op, no player-versus-player and no crossplay — you climb Aincrad on your own. In place of real players, an AI partner system lets you take companion characters into each quest, and they fight alongside you in real time. Bandai Namco has said it would consider adding multiplayer if demand is strong, but nothing has been announced.

No online multiplayer or co-op

The game is strictly single-player. There is no online co-op, no PvP, no shared raid parties and no crossplay — every floor, boss and side quest is built for one player. Climbing Aincrad with friends the way the anime's clearing groups do simply isn't part of the game.

AI partners take the place of a human party

Instead of other players, you recruit AI-controlled companions. Before a quest you choose up to three partners — each with their own weapon type, sword skills and combat role — and they act on their own in real time: focusing your target for burst damage, holding off extra enemies, or healing when your HP drops. It's the closest thing to a party, and it's entirely offline.

Could multiplayer be added later?

Maybe, but nothing is promised. Bandai Namco has said it would consider multiplayer modes or floor raids after launch if community demand and sales are strong — a wish-list, not a roadmap. Treat co-op as “not happening” unless the developers announce it; everything else circulating online is fan speculation.

The party you get instead

The game ships with 22 companion characters — Kirito, Asuna, Argo and more — each with their own weapon, sword skills and 200-level stat growth. Browse them in the Companions database, then plan the best trio for your build.
