A juvenile kobold. Kobolds are highly fertile and produce vast numbers of offspring. In kobold society, where strength trumps all and parental nurturing is virtually nonexistent, surviving becomes the newborns' first true test. Until they grow strong enough to prove their worth to the collective, they're treated as disposable pawns—or, sometimes, as a quick meal for their hungry kinfolk. Given the dog-eat-dog world the juveniles find themselves in, it is little wonder they all dream of becoming the leader of the pack.
