He so loved gems. Simply admiring their sparkling radiance filled his heart with a warm, gentle contentment. He could not—would not—be parted from them. He would not give them to his companions, nor even his queen. He fought tooth and nail against all who would come to steal his shiny, sparkling things, eventually deciding to protect them by becoming one with his precious treasures—devouring each gem whole. Taking pity on him, the Goddess named him Babo and sealed him away as a Guardian.
